From the Innovation Center: TRONTEQ is Rethinking IP Networks
As digitalization advances, more and more innovative solutions are also being found in public transport vehicles. But as far as IP networks in public transport buses are concerned, there is still a lack of novel approaches. With a series of new developments, we now want to fundamentally optimize the use of IP networks in public transport buses. With the end user in focus, we are addressing well-known issues in network architecture, installation, configuration and operation.

That’s how it’s going at the moment. Sounding familiar?
Switches form the basis for IP networks by connecting a number of peripheral devices such as ticket validators, displays and cameras in public transport vehicles. From network design to operation and beyond, public transport operators currently have to expend a lot of effort, as each switch in each vehicle has to be configured and maintained individually. The communication of all peripheral devices in the IP network depends on the correct configuration of the ports.
Best case: To configure its switches, the public transport operator accesses stored configuration files and installs them individually for each device in a manual process. With an average of two switches found on a bus and about an hour of installation time per vehicle, the management and installation effort is enormous. Human error cannot be ruled out.
Worst case: manually creating a configuration in the field for each device. This requires the installer to manually log into each device, make settings and save them. This method is only more time-consuming and extremely error-prone.
There is a better way. This is what we want to optimize
Our primary goal is to optimize IP networks in public transport buses at all levels. We are putting the experience we have gained in exchanges with our numerous customers into our new innovation project with full force. Our switches are basically intended to:
save transport companies valuable resources,
be easy to understand and operate
and be maintenance-free.
In short, we want to help companies achieve better fleet management. Replace hurdles with simple solutions. Rethink and optimize all individual areas of IP networks (architecture, installation, initial configuration, commissioning and operation of equipment).
